A memory like no other: Commissioned animal portraitS

Sizes & Prizes (visual GUide below)

I offer various sizes for pastel portraits, the most common is at 30x40cm (11,8×15,7“) for around 400€. I also offer smaller sizes as seen below in the price guide section – these are mostly for smaller pet portraits, like cats, dogs, rabbits, chicken etc., as a horse head portrait is usually too complex for this small size.

The portrait of dear Chelsey on the right is 45x60cm (17,7×23,6″) for instance. There’s nearly no limit to the format you prefer, whatever suits your home or the subject best. I will of course happily advise on this, if you’re unsure, or can’t find your favorited size in the guide section.

The price increases with size, and is dependent on the amount of subjects and the complexity of the image – so usually I can only give a set quote once we have figured out more details (eg. a head portrait, full body, or even both, multiple subject in one, some background arrangements etc.) – there’s a lot possible! In the end it really depends on your imagination. While discussing your wishes for the portrait I will of course always give you some advice and guidelines on what will look good, based on my artistic experience.

The process

After we have discussed the final format and subject, I will send you an invoice of a non-refundable 30% deposit up front, to secure your place in my booking list. The remaining price is due once the artwork is finished, before sending it off to you. I will take you along the process with pictures once in a a while.

I ship worldwide, and the exact postage can be calculated once we have discussed the format. It is of course possible to have the artwork directly framed by me, so you can just unpack it and hang it on your wall. We can discuss this during the drawing process, but it is not mandatory. I will always send you an instruction sheet on artwork care guidelines with the portrait, so you know how to handle it.

I’m looking forward to your message!

Carlotta 🙂

I have an informative brochure available (in German, soon to be translated):

PRICE GUIDE

(Subject to review every 6 months)

FAQ

WHAT PICTURES DO YOU NEED FROM ME?

I will need at least 1-2 good quality pictures from your animal, but you can of course send as many as you like! They should be taken with a camera or a high quality phone, so I can include as many little details as possible. Please choose photos that are taken outside in a shady area or inside near a window/daylight, always with the gaze of the subject towards the light. Please keep in mind that artificial light might disturb the natural color of the fur and eyes.

If you’re looking for a head portrait, take the photo at eye level with the subject and keep only the head in frame. Also, keep in mind that distortions might occur if you are too close or choose a wide angled lens.

DO YOU NEED ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION?

Please send me a little text and description of your animal, and feel free to include some anecdotes if you like 🙂

It is very important for me to get to know a little bit about the character, so I know what expressions to look for when choosing a reference picture.

HOW LONG WILL MY PORTRAIT TAKE?

The time frame is very dependent on the format of the portrait and how long my waiting list currently is. If you need it for a special occasion, please just inform me about the date in your initial email, and I will see how I can fit it in.

HOW MUCH IS SHIPPING?

The shipping quote will always depend on the format you choose. I ship with DHL, and it will always be tracked & insured. Shipping inside Germany for most formats is between 15-30€, rest of Europe 20-40€. Worlwide shipping is possible, to the US for example it’s 60-100€. Packaging costs are already included in this.

Or you pick it up at my studio in Soest, Germany!

IS FRAMING/Matting INCLUDED?

No, framing is not included. Your portrait will be safely packaged with an instruction sheet on how to handle and frame it.

However I offer to frame smaller formats for you directly in my studio, so you can just unpack it and hang it on your wall. There’s a variety of beautiful matting and framing options to choose from, and I will happily walk you through everything.

HOW DOES THE PAYMEnT WORK?

After we have decided on the format and reference picture, I will send you an invoice of 30% to secure the booking spot. The remaining balance (70% + shipping costs) will be due once the portrait is finished, and before sending it to you. I accept regular bank transfer and PayPal.

DO YOU ALSO PAINT PEOPLE?

Sadly I do not take commissions of human portraits. However there’s no limit to the kind of animals I paint – I mostly do horses and dogs, but feel free to request a portrait of your cat, rabbit, bird, cow, chicken, alpaca etc.! I will be happy to meet every one of them with their unique personality.
